Ben Callery Architects

Ben Callery Architects (BCA) is a small studio in Thornbury, on Wurundjeri land, that "loves designing contemporary, beautiful, functional and environmentally-conscious homes." Most of their work is in Melbourne and coastal and regional Victoria, with projects further afield in Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra. The practice is registered with the ARBV, the team are certified Passive House Designers, and they're signatories to Architects Declare. Sustainability and biophilia inform everything they do: "We create naturally comfortable houses that embrace the elements and use natural materials to be delightful to occupy with minimal environmental impact."

They have five homes on Lunchbox. In Northcote, Beyond House lets a growing family stay in the neighbourhood they love, Lean-2 flips the typical lean-to on its head to create a sunny home, and Curvy House turns a challenging narrow block into a sunlit sanctuary. Paperback House makes a hero of the bookshelf for two publishers and their family, and Elemental House is an off-grid retreat at High Camp facing a stunning but hostile landscape.

See Lean-2, Elemental House and more of their work on Lunchbox below.
