CHORDstudio

CHORDstudio is a design practice based in Melbourne. Both of their projects on Lunchbox find creative ways to give families the extra space they need, on tight budgets and tricky sites.

Loft House, at the bottom of a garden in Perth's coastal suburbs, is far more than a shed. On a budget of $140,000 it combines a self-contained music studio, a sleeping loft for visiting friends and family, a garage and storage, and it makes those unlikely neighbours work by creatively adapting conventional triangular roof trusses. Power Lane House in Sydney's inner coastal suburbs adds an upper-floor parents' retreat and plenty of storage, kayaks included, to a heritage home without spoiling it, using access from the rear laneway.
