Detail 9 Architects is a Melbourne architecture practice. Its Lunchbox project, Clinker Charm, renovates a post-war home in Malvern that needed turning around.

"Like most homes of the 1950's and 60's where all of the living areas face the street, this house was no exception," the architects explain. On a busy main road, with a separate, congested kitchen and an under-used backyard, "the old layout of this home just wasn't working for the owners." The renovation flips the house, moving the living spaces to a new rear extension that opens to the garden for easy indoor-outdoor living.
