Jean-Paul Rollo Architects on Lunchbox Architect

Jean-Paul Rollo Architects is a design-focused Melbourne studio "committed to personalised service", founded in 2007 by Jean-Paul Rollo, a registered architect and educator. Before starting the practice he worked at Lyons, Bruce Henderson Architects and Elenberg Fraser, and he has taught at RMIT, the University of Melbourne and Melbourne Polytechnic. The studio's work ranges from residential renovations and new homes to commercial projects and apartment fit-outs, including an ArchiTeam Award-winning artist's studio in Middle Park.

On Lunchbox, North Fitzroy House gives a much-altered house its third life. Originally a Victorian cottage, it was turned into a brick veneer by an owner-builder in the 1970s. A humble brief – use the existing spaces more effectively and bring back the sunlight the house had turned its back on – became a light-filled contemporary home for a young family of five.
