Kennedy Nolan Architects

Kennedy Nolan Architects is a Melbourne practice based in Fitzroy. Its four Lunchbox projects share a love of texture and raw materials, and a knack for making the most of unusual sites.

Merricks Beach House is Rachel Nolan's own weekender: a low-budget, tough and versatile holiday home an hour from Melbourne that rethinks the great Australian weekender. At Westgarth House in Northcote, the original Edwardian house becomes a dormitory, while a new living pavilion runs along the southern boundary to maximise the north-facing garden, with white wash unifying old and new.

Park Lane House sits on a site surrounded on three sides by public space, its extension nestled under the canopy of a spectacular eucalypt. Fitzroy Lane House fits a three-bedroom home and office over three levels on a laneway block of about 15 by 9 metres, with a polycarbonate wall bathing the stair in soft light.
