On Lunchbox, Paddington House updates an 1890s terrace for modern family living. The awkward L-shaped rear, with a light well to the south, was reworked into a new kitchen, laundry and toilet with a better connection to the courtyard. When excavating the raised courtyard proved too costly, the design turned the constraint into a feature: the existing magnolia tree was kept, the steps up now hold an upholstered reading nook, and skylights bring soft light into the long, narrow plan.
