SWG Studio

SWG Studio is an interdisciplinary design studio in Melbourne, founded in late 2009 by Santoso Budiman and Greg Royce to offer design services across buildings, interiors and objects. It also has a contact in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Its work ranges from private residences, including extensions to homes under heritage overlays and new single builds, to multi-residential developments and commercial interiors for hospitality, retail and offices. Principal designer Santoso Budiman is a registered building practitioner in Victoria, an accredited designer and practice member with the Design Institute of Australia, and a registered consultant with Heritage Victoria.

On Lunchbox, Villa Unit Reinvigorate updates a 1960s unit in Melbourne's inner east that was still in original condition. Working within a constrained budget, the designers removed internal walls to create an open-plan living space that feels generous without adding any floor area.

Removing Internal Walls Gives This Home a Modern Open-Plan Vibe

By removing the internal walls of this unit and incorporating plenty of built-in joinery, it feels more spacious and modern.
