Design by AD

Design by AD is a Melbourne building design and interior design studio led by building designer Aydan Doherty, and it has been designing homes since 2010. The studio stays deliberately small so it can focus on the finer details, and it handles everything from sketch design and town planning to documentation, builder selection, interiors, and even furniture and art curation.

In their words: "Whether reimagining a Victorian home or crafting a new urban retreat, our designs reflect a deep respect for history paired with a bold, forward-thinking approach."

That's what you'll find on Lunchbox. Wattletree House tucks a dark, butterfly-roofed addition behind an Edwardian home so the family can host visiting friends and relatives without upending daily life. Shot Tower Terrace restores and extends a Victorian worker's cottage in Clifton Hill while keeping views to the historic Shot Tower. And McPhail House gives a Victorian weatherboard in Essendon a moody, black-finned extension.
