Bijl Architecture
Bijl Architecture is a Sydney practice based in Willoughby, on Cammeraygal land, led by nominated architect Melonie Bayl-Smith. It's "guided by the belief that architecture must bring enduring surprise and delight", and describes itself as an ambitious practice that seeks to challenge the status quo. Their homes are "borne from an empathic, deeply personal expression of our clients' vision for living", while their education and public work aims to give the community dignity, purpose and meaning. The motto on their site says it all: "Always seeing potential."
They have five homes on Lunchbox. Escu House extends the living area into the verandah, and Step Down House adds an airy pavilion that spills into the backyard. CrossCut House in Mosman shows a home might already have enough space, House Anew in Pymble transforms a '90s red brick project home, and Proverbs14 House in Cammeray reinvents a family legacy.
See CrossCut House, House Anew and more of their work on Lunchbox below.
