Prefab Homes

Prefab Homes (sometimes called Modular Homes) are gaining popularity. And with good reason, they are built off-site — usually in a shed or factory, so they can be built faster (no rain days), more efficiently (less waste) and more affordably (fewer unknowns for the builder).

In a matter of weeks, your fully complete home can roll down your driveway on the back of a truck in one or more modules ready to be put together. Or, if you're dealing with a tight urban site, you might get to enjoy(?) the drama of seeing your new living area teetering over your bedroom from the top of a crane! Those cables look strong until half your house is attached to one…

Prefab houses come in all shapes and sizes today, and any good prefab builder will work with you to develop a plan to suit your needs, style and budget. In fact, most prefab builders have architects in staff (it's worthwhile asking). You'll get the best results by having your home architecturally designed suit your needs.

Get some ideas for your new Prefab Homes before the crane is crushing your front lawn. Take a look around some of the Prefab Houses we've featured on Lunchbox Architect:
